Happy New Year
To all of our faithful readers, many happy returns on the New Year.
This year's holiday season was an easy one -no travels (at least not the family, I've been on the road a bit for work).
My Mom came into town in mid-December and stayed with us through most of Hanukkah as well as Christmas. We really enjoyed her visit; its been a couple of years since she was out here last. While she was in town we hit Union Station/Science City, she took the kids out for an afternoon at an inflatable bounce park, ate some genuine BBQ, and did lots of visiting.
Christmas was fun. As usual, we set out milk and cookies for Santa and fresh vegetables (on the porch) for the reindeer. The morning started about 7:00 am after we told Pierce and Anna not to wake us before 7:30 am (Nora ended up waking up early). Santa was exceptionally generous. The big favorites were a massive stuffed white tiger for Anna, and a remote controlled airplane for Pierce. There were also lots of books, DVDs, games and puzzles.
We spent the evening (my Mom included) at Nora's folks house. A most excellent prime rib dinner, lots of the standard Christmas desserts, and lots of good conversation.
New Year's was very low-key with Nora and me staying in this year. A champagne toast, a kiss and lights out. We'd talked about doing something more elaborate, but my travel schedule precluded much in the way of planning. That said, it was a great way to kick-off the new year.
-Eric (Dad)
